I cannot think of a better way to kick off 2024 than with five solid days playing and hanging with Billy F Gibbons. We did two sold out shows in Nashville at the City Winery with our dear friends Steve Mackey and Fred Eltringham on bass and drums and Austin’s own Mike Flanigin, who is one of my new favorite people and a stellar B3 organ player. See some audience clips from the show in the video linked below!
We wrapped the weekend up with a TV show filming for NBC that will release in March – more details on that to come. All I can say is Gibbons is from another planet…I call him a down to earth alien. It’s an unbelievable feeling to have become such close friends with this amazing guy over the past few years. He continues to blow my mind every time I’m in his orbit.
When Gibbons called a few weeks ago about doing these shows, he said, “hey man…me, you and Flanigin are gonna wear tuxedos to be looking sharp. Let’s rendezvous in Green Hills to get fitted and acquire all the proper accessories necessary to sparkle on stage.” This turned into a full wild ride for 2 solid days around Nashville eating, drinking and hat shopping. He is always pulling something out of his hat to ensure that every experience is unique and there’s a story to come out of it. I really value the time spent around this super generous, one of a kind character.
Just some great adventures and stories to log away in the memory bank.
“South Of The Border Down Mexico Way”
The Trapp family decided to head south of the border for the holidays this year. This proved to be a great idea and a nice way to gain a different perspective this season. We based out of a nice neighborhood in Puerto Vallarta and took some fun excursions to the beautiful surrounding areas.
One of our favorite day trips was to the quaint beach village of Yelapa. This stunning paradise is only accessible by water and the 1.5 hour boat ride there alone was a total blast. We found a private boat captain named Lorenzo through our good friends down there and departed around 9am one fine morning. Within 20 minutes a pod of Humpback Whales appeared and we floated alongside them for a good 30 minutes or so. Unreal! The rest of the day was spent lounging on the perfect quite beach sipping fresh margaritas.
Over the course of the 10 day stay, we experienced some delicious food, great local culture, top notch weather, beautiful people and simply had a ball with our family and dear friends. These types of trips are becoming annual traditions now it seems. The adventure continues!
