I recently got to work with Fender to demo two amps: the Fender Vibro-King and the ’57 Bandmaster. I had a blast sitting down and playing through these amps for the camera. Fender recently posted the videos on YouTube. They even included a quick screenshot of the settings I used to get the tone you hear in the videos.

There’s a very cool contest happening sponsored by some great organizations like Ernie Ball, Guitar Center, Reverb Nation and Guitar World.
The grand prize is a chance to play live at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
With my new album “Pick Peace” out, I’m looking to get it out there in as many ways as possible. This is a great opportunity to share my music with all kinds of folks who might not hear it otherwise. (Plus, it’s a chance to meet one of my guitar heroes, the one and only Eric Clapton).

013 is already getting off to a great start–I’m proud to announce the official release of my Guthrie Trapp Signature Model Overdrive Pedal!
I was thrilled to get involved with this project a few months back with Chris VanTassel and Jay Rockett of Rockett pedals and J Rockett audio. They make a variety of great guitar effects including overdrive, tremolo and delays.
This is a wonderful sounding and feeling pedal with plenty of gain, a very usable tone control and volume control. It is based on their Chicken Soup pedal (modeled after the Nobels ODR-1) with some Mark Sampson (Matchless) tweaks and improvements.

I was just featured in the Mobile Press Register.
Here’s a quick excerpt of the article by Lawrence Specker:
Asked about the grand significance of his new solo album, Guthrie Trapp tries to pass it off as “just something that happened in between being busy playing for other people.”
His many family members, friends and supporters back in Baldwin County and the Pensacola area will know better. So does Peter Cooper, a respected music writer for the Nashville Tennessean, who recently used the album as the impetus for a lengthy article about a young player who has “established himself as a distinctive and important instrumental voice in Nashville.”

I’m very excited about this article by Peter Cooper in the Tennessean last Sunday.
Peter is a great guy and musician/writer in his own right.
He asked some really good questions, and I had a blast talking with him.

I am so excited about the release of my first record as an artist, and I feel very fortunate to have worked with Nashville’s finest for this project.
From my early days with Don Kelley, Patty Loveless and Jerry Douglas, to more recent years with TAR, 18 South, Shawn Camp, Tim O’Brien, John Oates and many others, it has always been my dream to have complete creative freedom.
Although I’ve been lucky to have played with artists that have given me much more freedom than most sidemen, I still have wanted to fully express myself musically for many years.
I feel that I am finally getting to do that now with the release of this record.

My set up and gear is pretty simple and traditional.
For most gigs and sessions, I use a pedal board with a good number of pedals.
For more traditional or low volume gigs, I may just bring a guitar, chord, tuner and amp.
My pedals on my board at the moment are from guitar to amp as follows: Boss TU-2 tuner, RC-Booster, Ibanez Mostortion, Nobels ODR-1 reissue, Nobels ODR-1 original, T-Rex Tremster, Arion Stereo Chorus, Deluxe Memory Man, and Boss DD-6 Digital Delay.

A few years ago, John Randall Stewart, Jimmy Wallace and myself were having a drink late one night at a local bar here in Nashville (Yes it’s true).
We were discussing the music business, as you could imagine, and started talking about how we should just get together and play some time. We thought about who we could get to come over and just hang and play one night.
We called upon Jessi Alexander, Mike Bub and Larry Atamanuik. The fit was so natural and felt so great, we knew we had something special.
That night 18 South was formed and we haven’t looked back! The band is a wonderful combination of great writing, singing, and musical virtuosity. The music is soulful, southern roots with hints of Latin, jazz, funk, bluegrass, country, rock and soul.
