Kalin and I had a total blast on our first trip to Miami Beach last week. It is so fun to find free time on the calendar and just take off to an unexplored destination. The only plans we like to make these days are the flights and the accommodations. Just like everything else in my life, it’s all improvised.

This outlook on traveling has opened up my world to some amazing and unexpected experiences. We were pleasantly surprised at how laid back and friendly it was down there. I was expecting more of an over the top Vegas party vibe, but our experience was that there was a perfect balance.

One of the highlights was the simple joy of riding bikes along the amazing boardwalk that follows the entire length of the beach. Having the Atlantic Ocean on one side and endless pool parties on the other made for non-stop entertainment while riding the beach cruisers provided by the hotel. Simple pleasures!

Nashville Nights

Nashville just keeps bringing it! This past week was stellar for live music here. The day after we got back from Miami, I went out on the town for two nights back to back for Tim O’Brien at the Station Inn with a wide variety of very special guests including Sarah Jarosz, Ronnie McCoury, Washboard Chaz, Nat Smith, Shad Cobb, Mike Bub, Larry Atamanuik, some Irish pipers and more. It was like a family reunion of sorts with many great players and friends.

The next day I got a call from a buddy in the neighborhood that told me Taj Mahal was doing an in-store performance up the street at Grimey’s record store. So of course we attended a perfect afternoon set with the main man, Taj. Then Steve Mackey told me he was playing Friday night with the Pat McLaughlin Band in Leipers Fork with Kenny Greenberg and Greg Morrow. My favorite band ever! It was a week extremely high in musical nutrients!

This has been a very fun three weeks in a row with the Miami sunshine, the amazing music in Nashville, and now looking forward to bringing the trio to New York City today. The adventure continues! Thanks so much for all the continued support and engaging in this newsletter/blog. We hope you have as much fun reading it as we do creating it!
